Xavier Jesuit School – From May 27 to June 10, students from K3 to G6 participated in the Annual Primary School Sports Day 2025. The event featured a wide variety of fun and challenging sports activities, including running, throwing balls into baskets, jumping over obstacles, walking on sandbags, throwing hoops into cones, and football matches of U-10 and U-12 for both girls and boys.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, students formed teams with creative names such as White Rabbit, King Wolf, King Kong, and Wild Lion.

Our Primary School Principal Mrs. Sin Saya expressed her heartfelt appreciation for every effort and joyful participation of all students. She commended their cooperation, solidarity, and genuine care for one another, which truly embodied the spirit of the event.

Our Sports Teacher Mr. Happ Vann Thai shared that the purpose of the Sports Day was not only to promote physical fitness but also to cultivate teamwork, leadership—with students taking on roles as team captains—and to foster a culture of love, sharing, and mutual support among the students.

A big congratulations goes to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place football teams:

- U-10: Grades 1 & 2 (Phnom Bak), Grade 3B, and Grade 3A

- U-12 (Girls): Grades 4AB, Grade 5AB, and Grade 6AB

- U-12 (Boys): XJS All Stars, Grade 6AB and Grade 6AB

Xavier Jesuit School – We are committed to developing our teachers’ professionalism and teamwork through annual workshops.

Collaborating with the University of San Francisco (USF) of the United States, on 11-12 June 2025, we organized an annual workshop on “Classroom Management: Supporting Students and Building Relationships” with over 80 teachers, including 15 teachers from other 10 state schools in Banteay Meanchey. Our teachers actively participated and shared in small groups in creating positive classroom norms, dealing with conflicts and building connections rather than corrections. Teachers even got a good chance to learn about mindfulness and developing positive communication strategies.

Our teachers had a good time sharing among themselves and got inspired by different perspectives in providing quality education with heart and mind.

We thank the University of San Francisco for their unwavering support to organize this workshop with us.

April 28th-30th, 2025, Mrs. NHEN Thira, our Child Safeguarding and Family Liaison Officer, and Mr. CHRANH Ul, her assistant, gave a presentation on child protection to all primary school students to raise awareness about children’s rights. In this child-friendly sharing, with relevant pictures, videos and case studies, they pointed out different forms of abuse and effects of violence, and students actively participated in listening and answering questions.

Through this presentation, students also learned how to respond and report in case of abuse that may happen to them.

This is our commitment to provide child safeguarding education so as to ensure that all of our students are protected at home and in their community.

Banteay Meanchey, 23 April 2025

Xavier Jesuit School – In the afternoon of April 22, 2025, the school leadership team, students, teachers, and staff of all levels of Xavier Jesuit School participated in a Mass to pray for Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88 on April 21, 2025 at 7:35 a.m. due to an illness.

Led  by Fr. Oh Indon, Fr. Mark Lopez and  Fr. San (Do Thanh Nguyen), the Jesuit priests, they explained to all that the life path that Pope Francis  has pioneered, dedicated and focused on working on global issues like climate change, the poverty, peace and social justice, etc. Father Mark mentioned that Pope Francis has earned the respect and love of the general public because of his simplicity. By all these remarks, the school would like to show respect and admiration for what he has done for humanity, a role model that we could learn from. All the leaders, teachers, staff and students burned incense and prayed for his repose of soul.

His death is a great loss of the entire world, with a strong sense of morality who devoted his entire life leading the Catholic Church and to the service of the marginalised.

From 21st to 24th January, 2025, with the concern of taking care our students physically and academically growth. We welcomed and worked with 12 Student Nurse coming from Korea, SeRaPhic (Chung Ang University). 507 XJS students from kindergarten to Grade 6 are examined with their weight, height and visibility. Moreover, they were given proper instructions on hygiene such as washing hands and brushing teeth.
With this whole- school check-up, school got to know students’ condition and can work better with the parents to provide proper health care to their children especially at this critical time of physically development.
As a result, all students attended actively in the lesson of hygiene, they have gained new experience and revised their knowledge. We hope all students will continue to practice all that they have learnt to maintain good health.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, schools in Cambodia are still closed to present. It was first ordered last March 16^th and was extended until further notice by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS).

As regular classes have been further disrupted by the pandemic, the XJS Primary School planned some initiatives to address the need of offering continued education despite the lack of face-to-face classes. Primarily, the objectives of the project are to prepare the students for the resuming of the school, to ensure that they remain active even within the bounds of their homes, and to provide necessary information regarding the do’s and don’ts at this time of pandemic.

To implement this, the teachers first surveyed on the number of families who have access to the internet. As over fifty percent of the students turned out to have access to the internet, the school decided to start crafting fun educational videos. The educational videos cover varied contents such as songs, dances, storytelling, exercises, proper hygiene, and revisions of the previous lessons.

Why did our students’ parents and guardian come to the classrooms?

On 6^th of March 2020, the XJS Primary and Kindergarten School held its Parents-Teachers Meeting (PTM). The school invites the parents a few times each year. These meetings serve as regular forums for both sides to discuss pertinent concerns. These PTMs usually identify and affirm the child’s strengths in academics, which in turn may help parents support their child in his/her holistic development outside the school. The teachers may also point out their observations of a child’s behavior in the classroom.

In the end, parents were happy to hear about their children’s school life. As PTMs are quite uncommon in Cambodia, most parents expressed their appreciation toward the initiative of the school to share about the important events or milestones in their children’s lives.

This year’s PTM also paved way in the beginning of student leadership formation in primary school at XJS. This year several students from Primary 4 and 5 were invited to assist in the event. They were stationed at registration, handing out numbers to the parents and leading them to the right classrooms.

The XJS Primary and Kindergarten School aims to cater various ways that can effectively help every child reach his or her fullest potential. Also, it wishes to instill the Ignatian value of “being men and women for others” which is an essential characteristic of a Jesuit education.

On Friday 21^st February 2020, two police officers came to Xavier Jesuit School to give a talk to all our high school students on the importance of Road Safety as well as the impact of drug use at XJS.

Road safety has become a major concern for the Government in Cambodia this year because the National Police reported 4,121 traffic accidents occurred throughout 2019 and 1,981 lives were taken with 3,919 seriously injured and 2,222 suffered minor injuries. Included in these figures are a few of Xavier Jesuit School students, family members and staff. Hence, it was important that all XJS students were updated on road safety as well as the impact of using drugs so that they are well informed on these two serious issues which are impacting their day to day routine to and from school.
