As schools begin to reopen in some parts of the world, schools in Cambodia have remained pre-occupied with devising distance learning opportunities to its students.
To respond to this education crisis, the XJS-Primary School (XJS-PS) has established continuous learning activities including e-lessons and study group sessions in villages. These activities aim to reach most of the PS students’ population that do not get access to e-learning.
For e-lessons, there are already more than 60 videos uploaded on the XJS PS Online Class channel. The videos mainly cover Khmer and Maths classes from K2 to Grade 5. However, this internet-based learning garnered mixed responses from the students, mainly stemming from poor network reception, high data expenses, and lack of reliable devices.
Alternatively, the study group sessions are being held alternately in 12 locations in Dey Lo and Phnom Bak. The sessions cover Khmer, Maths, and English and run for about 2 hours a day. Currently, more than 52% of the primary school students (K2 to Grade 5) are attending these study group sessions.
As PM Hun Sen put off the reopening of schools until later this year, the XJS PS has decided to offer these continuous learning activities until further announcement from the Ministry.
