Last Tuesday (9 May 2023), we were delighted to welcome a parent, Mr. Chan Tip, to our morning assembly. For the past two years, he and his colleagues have been coming to our primary school about every three months to provide free haircuts and nail trimming services for our students. To express our sincere gratitude, we presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation from our School Director, Fr. Jinhyuk Park, S.J.
We asked the students if they had ever thought about why Mr. Chan Tip would be willing to provide free haircuts for our students. The students said that Mr. Chan Tip wanted to share his talents with everyone and help the students keep clean and tidy.
During the assembly, Mr. Chan Tip shared with the students that his academic performance was not very good when he was a child. He knew he had to work hard for his future, so he chose to learn hairdressing. He encouraged the students not to give up, even if their academic performance was not good, and to learn skills that they could use in the future to help themselves and others.
We hope that our students can learn to think about their future and share their achievement and talents with others, even when they are still young. Just like the message from “the parable of the talents” that Jesus told (cf. Matthew 25:14-30), we should not waste the talents God has given us.
