On Monday 26th to Friday 30th of August, 2019, a group of very experienced teachers from Australia through the “Teachers Across Borders” program delivered a PD Workshop to the Xavier Jesuit School teachers in the areas of English, Mathematics and Sciences.

Alan and Clare provided PD in English and Maths to 17 primary school teachers while Elvira and Kathryn provided English, Maths and Sciences to 21 middle and high school teachers. These four teachers from “Teachers Across Borders” have been coming to Cambodia to help the public-school teachers in the Province of Kampong Thom for the last twelve years. They are quite familiar with the education context and challenges which Cambodian teachers are faced with. Hence, they were able to provide professional development according to the Cambodian curriculum and help our teachers connect theory and practical activities as well as critical thinking as part of their instruction in the classrooms. They not only helped our teachers with subject matters but also demonstrated how to manage classrooms effectively and makes the lessons fun and enjoyable for the students.

All participants enjoyed the workshop so much as it was informative as well as fun.  Our teachers have learned a great deal from the workshop and have asked that this workshop be offered twice a year.

Xavier Jesuit School is grateful to “Teachers Across Borders” and to all the principals in their respective schools in Australia for allowing them this opportunity to come to Xavier Jesuit School to share their knowledge, pedagogies and teaching experiences with our teachers.
