On the 19 of May
On the 19 of May 2015, builders started work to add three more classrooms on the first floor of the Dey Lo Kindergarten school. This kindergarten has functioned well for two years now. The Xavier Jesuit School Team has responded positively to the request of the local Commune chief to add one class of grade 1 primary school next November (the start of the school year). The original building was constructed with funds from Joy Of Sharing, a Korean NGO. The plan is to recruit a fully-trained Khmer Primary School Teacher or Principal to take charge of this first primary school class. This class will be taught in the Dey Lo building at the same time as the two levels of kindergarten school during the next academic year. After completing grades 1 and 2 in the Dey Lo building, the children will move to the larger building at the Community Learning Centre on the school site at Phnom Bak village. In other words, the Dey Lo school will become a sort of feeder or satellite school for very poor children who will complete their studies at the Xavier Jesuit School complex about two kilometres away. Our Teacher Training Officer, Ms. Lucia Wong, will work closely with the new teacher to ensure that the quality of teaching reaches the highest standard possible in the circumstances.
