Despite the lack of rain the trees, bushes, plants and vegetables are flourishing at Xavier Jesuit School. Last year, the river was dry. With permission from the Governor, we then dredged earth from the river bottom to use as land-fill. This year, the Governor built a dam on the other side of Sisophon so that the river water does not all run off to the fresh-water lake (Tonle Sap) in the centre of Cambodia. So now, even at the end of the dry season, the river is still full. Different species of birds have built nests along the banks and the river water helps to irrigate all the trees and plants on the campus. The local people are still catching fish from the river. Even our pond remains nearly full this year so the fish are safe there.
