On Friday 2nd of August, 2019 both the Primary and Secondary Schools at Xavier Jesuit School (XJS) celebrated the end of the 2018-2019 academic year with dancing, singing, award giving and farewells.
The day was an emotional one for all the students, teachers, staff and parents. It was a memorable occasion to see so many parents and grandparents present and the satisfaction and smiles on their faces as they watched their own children on stage in our school’s Multi-Purpose Hall. They were able to see their children performing dances, singing and receiving awards – not only for academic but also for efforts, most improved, sporting awards, magis award and best class award.
In the high school, grade 7A was awarded the best class, winning the Ignatius’ Cup for 2018-2019 as the class with the highest number of points in cooking, sporting competition, public speaking, debating and maths quiz.
The day was an emotional one because not only were the students saying farewell to their teachers and classmates for a two-and-a-half-month break, but they were also saying farewell to the three presentation sisters who were departing to their respective countries after their two years’ collaboration at XJS.
As our high school students depart, they sang: “We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones who make a brighter day, so let’s start giving. There’s a choice we’re making. We’re saving our own lives. It’s true we’ll make a better day, just you and me.”
Xavier Jesuit School wishes all the students, parents and teachers a safe holiday and we hope they will return “brighter and better” next October for a new school year.
