Since the beginning of March, the construction of the Community Learning Centre has moved fast. The CLC is the first component of the Xavier Jesuit School project in Cambodia. The mission of the CLC will be to serve the educational needs of the local population outside of normal school hours. This first building will also serve as a temporary Teacher Resource Centre to provide in-service training for teachers. The concrete has been cast on site for all the ground beams. Samples have been sent to Phnom Penh to be tested for their strength. Br. Nguyen works with the local engineer Mr. Leang nearly every day now. They have explained to Fr. Ashley the process of casting concrete for the first floor columns. Even though the weather is very hot now (37-39 degrees celsius), the builders work long hours to try to finish the structure before the rainy season begins in May.
