From the 3rd to the 7th of April 2017, three members of the Korean Astronomy Association who work at the National Youth Space Centre, Mr. Sun-gill Kwon, Mr. Young Cheol Shin and Mr. Taewoo Kim, led an Astronomy workshop for secondary school teachers at Xavier Jesuit School.  The eighteen teachers came from five different secondary schools of Banteay Meanchey Province, including the high schools of O-Ambel, Sereysophon, Khla Kon and Svay Chek and from Teuk Thla middle school.  Each session involved a learning activity which meant that the teachers learnt how to set up and use the one-metre telescope, make a pin-hole camera, create a sun-dial and a simple spectroscope.  On Tuesday the 4th of April from 7 to 8 p.m. in the evening, the teachers used the telescope to study the Moon, the Orion constellation and the planter Jupiter whose red rings were clearly visible.    While the translation from Korean to English and then to Khmer proved a challenge, the generous energy of the three Korean instructors ensured a warm reception on the part of the Cambodian teachers.  Fr. Ashley and Mr. Rath thanked these instructors on their behalf.  This was the first teacher training workshop for Secondary School Teachers organized by Xavier Jesuit School.   The original inspiration came from Fr. Lee Kyung-yong S. J. who put our two groups in contact with each other!
