Seven of our Grade 7 students are beneficiaries of our scholarship fund. The 7 girls are living together in a house near the school where our Moral Studies teacher Miss Savin Ao is looking after them. They come from poor families in remote villages in the Provinces of Banteay Meanchey and Siem Reap.
Through the joint support of Jesuit Services Cambodia and the Xavier Jesuit School, the girls can now attend High School, an option that almost certainly would not have been available to them without this intervention.
While living together, the girls will take turns cooking for each other and cleaning. In this way they will learn about shared responsibilities and the important life skills associated with living with others and hopefully develop lifelong friendships along the way.
In the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap and in fact throughout Cambodia, JSC runs programs to help the most marginalised in Cambodian Society. We are delighted to be collaborating with them, a collaboration which works toward providing opportunities for a better life through education, for the most vulnerable.
