On Tuesday 1st November, our new grade 7 students embarked on their first year in secondary school. Many of them were already familiar with the school, some having joined us for summer school in September, others were involved in extra-curricular English classes run as part of our Community Learning Centre programme.
The day began with the flag raising ceremony. One of our local volunteers teachers, Mr. Rath, then welcomed the students and gave them a short orientation session, throughout which they proved themselves to be a very attentive and well behaved group of young people.
The school day started with a double class of Khmer language. The Khmer language teacher, Lokru Yeat Yom, describes the class as being enthusiastic and showing good initiative. “I love teaching children like this”, he says. “If they continue with this attitude to learning they will do very well.”
And so, the first students of Xavier Jesuit Secondary School have set out on a new path and what a good start they have made.
