On the 10th of December 2015, human rights day in Cambodia, Francois and Marie led the first training session for 14 volunteer cub scout leaders. The session gave the participants a taste of a normal cub scout meeting with games, training and experience of the outdoors. Soon the Xavier Jesuit School Project will launch a cub-scout troop for the 8-11 year old kids of Dey Lo and Phnom Bak villages which will meet on Sunday afternoons. In the long run, perhaps these cub-scouts will become leaders in their own right. For Fr. Ashley, this scout group has special significance because it is 35 years and 3 months since he resigned as Skipper of the 9th Port of Dublin, Malahide Sea Scouts in Ireland to join the Jesuits. Earlier this year, the official in the Provincial Education Office of Banteay Meanchey responsible for youth development, encouraged the school team to create such a group and offered to provide support to this initiative.
