From the 3rd to the 7th of August, twenty teachers from NGO and Church kindergarten schools around the country together with two primary teachers attended a workshop on the use of Visual Arts in teaching run by the Xavier Jesuit School Project team. Ms. Shelley Sau Mau Yong from Hong Kong was the guest instructor while Ms. Lucia Wong assisted her.  The teachers were delighted to discover that they had artistic skills that they had never used in their many years of teaching.  They joked and laughed a lot during the workshop.  Each day followed a theme such as fish, birds, trees, rain, allowing the teachers to learn how to create beautiful art work from waste materials.   Most were amazed at their own ability.  The interpretation and sharing of their art work encouraged them to reflect more deeply on the values and assumptions that inspired this work.   The evaluations were quite positive and the XJSP team considers that this pilot project could provide a model for further teacher training programs later.
